Can I use any american appliances/electronics in Europe with just a converter?

Can I use any american appliances/electronics in Europe with just a converter?
I am traveling to Europe and the Czech Republic. Will I be able to plug any american appliance/electronic in through a simple converter and use it? Or is there something else I would need to avoid "blowing up" my american appliances/electronics? In general, I would be plugging in hair appliances or a laptop or cell phone charger. If you have any recommendations on what converter etc. to purchase, I would appreciate the suggestions. Thanks!
Other - Europe - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Most modern electronics like laptops, cell phone chargers, ipod chargers, etc. will work with both US and European voltages. Look at the power supply label. It will say something like 100 - 240 Vac 50/60 Hz. In this case, all you need is a plug adapter here. You do not need a voltage converter for these devices. Some products, like Sony camera chargers, specifically tell you not to use a voltage converter. For some of the hair appliances, you may need a voltage converter. You'll need to check the product information to tell whether what you have is dual voltage or not. I've been using US electronics here in Europe for the past ten years and have never needed a voltage converter - laptops, cell phone charger, and camera chargers, but I have no hair appliances here.

Dual Voltage Laptop from US taking to Europe-Questions?

Dual Voltage Laptop from US taking to Europe-Questions?
Okay. So my laptop (Asus eee pc) is dual voltage. I have the US to European converter plug. My question is do I need a surge protector to put between the two of them? So it would be: Laptop Cord>Surge Protector>Conversion Plug>Wall or do I skip the surge protector and just do Laptop Cord>Conversion Plug>Wall Is the surge protector needed? Then, I also have a dual voltage cannon camera battery charger. Will that be fine plugging into the converter plug then into the wall? Thank you!! Any advice is extremely appreciated-I leave Saturday!
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
for the most part, a surge protector on a laptop 'power brick' is a little useless as the adapter and the battery essentially protect the laptop from surges... if htese are dula power, you shouldn't need the converter plug or if you do be sure what you're using...
Answer 2 :
Laptop Cord>Conversion Plug> !! surge protector !! > Wall Needs to go in that order or else its pointless, the surge protector wouldn't actually be preventing a surge otherwise. And same goes for the camera: Camera >Conversion Plug> !! surge protector !! > Wall

How much to buy a laptop from ebay?

How much to buy a laptop from ebay?
Hi. I live in Europe, in Bulgaria. How much it would cost me the shipping if i buy a laptop from the American ebay.Im talking approximately.
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
around $60 USD
Answer 2 :
It depends on the one that you are looking for they are like 739.95 to 300.00....
Answer 3 :
I think it should go between 50 to 100 US dollars. Not all ebay sellers ship outside U.S.though. You can filter those that ship to your country by doing an advance search; 1. Input your search term in the "Enter keywords . . . " box 2. Scroll down to location and check the "only show item" box 3. Point the "Available to" button to highlight it 4. Scroll down the countries to choose yours. 5. Then click the "Search" button. Alternatively, there are sites shipping outside U.S. in http://www.outsideus.com

Will my laptop computer (from the U.S.) work in England-Europe?

Will my laptop computer (from the U.S.) work in England-Europe?
Specifically, will I be able to connect to the internet using my connection ports? Will there high speed work with my computer?
Other - Europe - 6 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes, it will. But you may need a different charger, or at least a different plug. *** ADDITION *** Yes, Ethernet plugs are universal. So is WiFi.
Answer 2 :
yes
Answer 3 :
Depends; You will need to plug it in where there is 110 voltage, and thats HARD to find in europe. Most the wattage is 220volts. If you can't find the 110 outlet then you will need to use a transformer and you can purchase them in europe. They can be quite expensive depending on the size you need. Ranging from around 25-150.00 dollars. Hope this helps.
Answer 4 :
Most likely it will. Check whether the adapter that came with it says 220/110v 50-60 Hz. If it does, you're good to go, but will still have to buy an adapter for the different plugs (a couple of bucks). If it says only 110V, you'll need to purchase a charger/adapter as well. Make sure it has the same wattage as your current adapter, and that the plug that goes to your computer is compatible with the socket in your laptop.
Answer 5 :
my computer (dell) was bought in USA and works fine in Europe, first check that the laptop has a voltage switch (mine does) and once you switch the voltage you just need to buy an adapter - the lines for the USB etc. are all the same, the phone connection might be different - I am in Malta and the phone connectors here are long and flat versus square as in the US [i think UK is the same as Malta]- i did blow out my printer though by using the wrong converter.. i also have an older laptop without a voltage switch and just use it with different adapters as this particular laptop is universal - go to the manufacturers website and check your model - good luck!
Answer 6 :
im in Malta and my lap top was bought in the states, I had no problem getting internet service thats fast and cheaper than the states, however I had to get a transformer to plug in to the wall as the plugs dont match up. if you dont use a transformer you will burn your computer out quickly as the power in many parts of europe isnt as stable as the usa and flucuates from 220 up to 240

I am not taking my cell phone or my laptop, I have no idea how to call from Europe to US. So please tell me. I need answer asap.! thank you
Other - Europe - 4 Answers

Answer 1 :
Skype. Or just go to a phone and dial the number.
Answer 2 :
dial 001, then the area code, and number. If you are using a calling card, follow the instructions on the card or the automated instructions. But, I believe even when using a calling card, you need to dial 001 before the actual number.
Answer 3 :
apparently you can buy a phone there and buy the plan (which is like a debit card) there although i'm sure its still expensive. you could skype while at cafes that have free internet acess but the time difference from Europe to CA will be hard to do. best thing to do is talk to your cell phone provider and try to take it with you or call from hotels/hostels and hope they don't charge you a grand fee. this is from what i've heard though
Answer 4 :
First enter the US dial code (i think it is +1), then california, the city and then the number...

Need help with plug adapters for my HP laptop??

GOING TO EUROPE!?!?! Need help with plug adapters for my HP laptop??
I will be visiting Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy on my trip, what type of power converter/adapter do I need to power my laptop, Ipod and to charge my digital camera??? All are typical US Plugs. THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Packing & Preparation - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
Go to your local best buy or radio shack or even future shop. Tell them you need a European adapter and they will know EXACTLY what you need!
Answer 2 :
wal mart has a world power inverter. itl cover all of europe... enjoy... i went to italy and it was a blast... but wal mart has you covered
Answer 3 :
Switzerland has different shaped plugs from France/Spain/Italy (still two round pins, but the socket is a squashed hexagon instead of round). You can get all-in-one adapters which would be the best option. http://www.amazon.com/SunPak-TRAVEL-ADAPT-Universal-World-wide-Adapter/dp/B000JC5T82/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215029701&sr=8-2 Check that the chargers for your laptop/phone/camera can handle 240V...if not you will fry your electronics unless you also bring a stepdown-voltage-converter with you....and even then I'd be dubious. Look on the charger for words like "Input 100-240V"...that would be OK.

International Mobile Broadband Europe - What is the best option?

International Mobile Broadband Europe - What is the best option?
Hey all, Myself and a team of individuals are going on a charity event across Europe for 10 days. It is a Treasure Hunt and has a lot of clues etc. I have acquired a netbook (small laptop) and we intend to use this for broadband. Does anyone know what the cheapest option for 10 days would be? Or have any advice for using mobile broadband in europe. Thanks All.
Other - Europe - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I don't think you will be able to find any really cheap deals for mobile broadband for use internationally in Europe. You could subscribe to The Cloud, or setup an account with Fon.com. Vodafone and the other large operators allow you to use their networks across the national borders. In general I think it would be much cheaper to just use free wifi at coffee shops etc.
Answer 2 :
Best way to avoid expensive roaming charges will be to get a local EU service even before you leave: http://www.rebelfone.com/Europe_simcards.asp Best part is you pay low & fixed rates wherever you are in EU.

How to get internet over in Europe?

How to get internet over in Europe?
Im going to Europe for a month in the next ten days. And Im looking for a way to get internet connection on my laptop wherever I go. Like airports and different countries. I have verizon so maybe they have something ? Im imagining some kind of usb you plug in your computer and can get internet without any routers? Like how to businessman do it on their trips around the world ?
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Some airports do offer free internet access, you need an ethernet cable, not a usb cable. You plug in and open your browser. Some have wifi too, same system, the internet provider is the airport's own. Hotels usually make you pay for internet access, they have either wifi or cable. Same thing, you just plug in your computer and open your browser, the internet provider is the hotel's own. You can also leave the laptop at home and go to internet cafes to log in from time to time.
Answer 2 :
Lol, yes lugging a laptop around for a month is really impractical. You find internet cafes almost everywhere. Otherwise you would need a USB modem, but that's like mobile phone so you'd be like phoning international and it comes really expensive.
Answer 3 :
As Cabal told you, there are some free internet points at either airports or hotels and some that you have to pay for. The Hotel Verona, for example, offers free internet in Verona, Italy. He also told you about the internet access points that are widely available in many places here in Europe. However, there are also USB keys for internet here. I only use mine at home though and use public access points if I'm out visiting. They're generally faster access and can be cheaper. You also don't need to lug your laptop around with you when you're out exploring. The major phone providers here all have USB internet keys with prepaid SIMS. Wind, 3, Vodafone, and TIM all have them in Italy: http://www.tim.it/consumer/google/o104087/tariffa.do?gclid=CKTyguyv-KICFcKQ3wod-hlFjg , http://www.tre.it/public/internet_mobile.php?gclid=CNiKpoSw-KICFU2S3wodE3q_hg There are similar offers from other providers here and in other countries around Europe.

I'm going to Europe this summer. How to get internet for my laptop?
I'm going to Belgium for an internship, and I'll be staying in a simple cottage with NO internet. My boyfriend and I will need wireless internet for our laptops. We'll be in a tiny town, so going to internet cafes is out of the question. What companies offer good rates for this? I will need it for 4 weeks in Belgium, then 2 more weeks traveling across western Europe. I have no idea where to even begin to look! Please help me.. I leave the US on May 8th! Just to clarify, I will have no access to wifi. I'll need one of those little portable hotspot devices, I believe you plug it in thru USB. Just need to know where to look, what service providers are out there, cost-effective options for a 4-6 week trip..

Laptop - Works in both America & Europe?

Laptop - Works in both America & Europe?
Hi, I'm getting a laptop from Canada which uses 100V, I have heard that some laptops can work in European countries that use the 240 system without problems. How can I tell if the laptop autocompensates or if I need a transformer of some kind?
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The plugs are a different shape. You will definitely need a universal converter. They sell them in travel and luggage stores.
Answer 2 :
It should come with it's own. Mine is a black box on the cord. It says how many volts it can take. I bought it in the US but am now living in Europe, and it works fine. The only extra thing I had to buy was a plug adaptor because they're outlets are round instead of rectangular. That only cost about $2!
Answer 3 :
The charger that charges your laptop battery has some markings written on it. Those markings usually tell you the voltages it can be used with. Almost all chargers nowadays can be used with all voltages between 100V and 250V. Laptops are designed to be mobile. Which means they are made for travel to various countries where the electrical outlet voltages vary from 100V to 250V.

Answer 1 :
Regardless of the country its made, nowadays, it has become a standard for all electric/electronic equipments to have wide power range adapters. That means your laptop power adapter should have the range of 100-220v with a frequency range of 50/60 Hz.Check the power rating given in your power adaptor. What you need is the power adaptor/plug for the country you travel. I suggest you to buy a universal adaptor, which can be used across all the continents. Hope this helps you.

I need a new laptop (a core i5, 15/17 inch screen, discrete graphics, reliable and robust, have a few Acers, Asus and Lenovos in mind) I will be traveling in China - Beijing and Shanghai and in Barcelona in September. Prices home (Romania) are about 100 to 200 dollar higher than in the US (shops in the US don't ship in Romania). Where would I find the best deal? Would I have to pay any taxes upon return from in China? Regarding the Green Dam Youth Escort software - I would reinstall the OS with my own copy of win7 or a linux distro. I would say buy your laptop in Canada, computers seem to cost more in Poland than in Canada. We were in Poland a couple of years ago & were quite surprised at how costly computers were. There were a lot of used computer stores, just as there were in Canada a few years ago when a new computer cost about twice as much as it does now.

You can already buy one in Canada or if you cant really decide you can consider buying online since they also offer laptops with affordable prices.

What kind of computer access is there while backpacking through europe?

what kind of computer access is there while backpacking through europe?
I'm traveling to Europe for the first time in April. Do hostels have computers that you can rent or use? How do I find internet cafes? Are they expensive? I'd bring my laptop but it's way too much of a hassle, for many obvious reasons. I just want to have the option of access to research my travel options as well as contact with home.
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Bringing your laptop is way to much hassle. In most towns you will find an internet cafe, and I found that many hostels also have internet you can use, but you can never be sure that you will have access. When you come to a new town keep your eyes open, that is mostly enough to spot an internet cafe, if not, ask at the desk of the hostel. If neither works, as at the tourist information office, they also know that kind of information. As for the price, that differs a lot, even within one town. Some are an Euro per hour, getting cheaper when you stay on longer, others cost an Euro for the first ten minutes, and sometimes there is free internet in the hostel.
Answer 2 :
You're right, schlepping a laptop, plug converters, electrical converters, plus the security issues...WAY too much hassel when backpacking. Or travelling at all. There are internet cafés everywhere. I paid about 1€/hour in Spain. probably the same all over. They are easy to spot. The signs say internet café. English, ish. However, you will need to translate everything. (which doesn't take all that long) and you will need to get used to different keyboards everywhere. They aren't all qwerty boards. It's interesting, though, sort of a different facet of the culture to get... Enjoy!
Answer 3 :
And don't forget about public libraries as well! They also might grant you internet access - there might be a small fee to pay, you have to book a time slot or there may be a certain time limit (like 15 minutes or so). but it's worth considering.

Well it wouldnt hurt, but I really dont think what that person said is accurate. Thousands of people travel through customs every day with labtops, and they are not going to harrass every one of them. I am sure 5 -6 years ago when labtops were less common it could have been an issue, but today they are becoming almost as common as cell-phones. So I wouldnt worry about it.
Answer 3 :
Whoever told you that you should have proof of purchase is talking out their rear-end. The only time you would have an issue like that is if you bought your laptop overseas -- then they would ask you for proof of purchase. They'll X-ray it, and they may ask you to turn it on, but the exam will not be more intensive than that unless they suspect that you have something on your computer that you shouldn't, like child porn.

What is a good/affordable Laptop Backpack that I can use to travel with?

What is a good/affordable Laptop Backpack that I can use to travel with?
I am going on a 3 week backpacking tour of Europe next month. I am also going back to school as soon as I come back, and I need a backpack to hold my 17" laptop. I wanted to buy just one backpack instead of two to save money. Northdace and Jansport are great backpacks, but my budget is $60. I need the laptop holder, at least two separate compartments and a water bottle holder. Thanks for your help.

if you find a wifi hotspot yes. mostly in airports. wifi range is about 100 feet.
Answer 2 :
Wifi operates in the unlicensed band of 2.4 Ghz and 5.x Ghz. This is the same throughout the world and provided you are in range of the hotspot (about 50-100m) you should get connectivity.

Where can I get a computer power cord for Europe?
I'm moving to Europe and want to take my computers with me. I have a Dell laptop and a Dell desktop. I looked on a Dell site for a power cord but can't find one. Does anyone know where I can get one? I'm gonna get a converter but for my computers i just want to change the power cord since that'll make it a lot easier. Thanks a lot.

Be careful the US uses 110v 60hz, while Europe uses 220v 50hz. Check your computer specs before you "just change a power cord" Most US computers will auto-detect or provide a switch, but some may not. Good luck

Answer 1 :
Find a Euro provider that has prepaid service over there, it'll be much cheaper.
Answer 2 :
Great question. Sprint, Alltel and T-Mobile don't really cater to this crowd right now. However, Verizon and AT&T do. Both have plans that let you roam in Europe with 100 MB per month. That's good for regular web pages and email but definitely not Youtube, downloading songs or music. It can get you the essentials done while still having domestic coverage when you come back. Verizon's is $130 while AT&T's is $140. However, for $230, AT&T will throw another 100 MB on it (200 MB in total). Full details on coverage and cost in the sources. I hope this helps
Answer 3 :
if it were me, i'd get the sprint or verizon 8830 blackberry: http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2051/64/ and when in europe, prolly do a pre-pay sim card.

Traveling to Europe from US: What kind of international adapter will I need?

Traveling to Europe from US: What kind of international adapter will I need?
I will be in Europe for 10 months for a gap year. I will most likely be bringing a hair dryer, hair straightener, walkie talkie charger, alarm clock, and my laptop charger. What sort of international adapter would I need so that my appliances work with the voltage in Europe?
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
they have different types in europe most countries like germany,italy,spain.. got this type http://www.prisma-world.com/wDeutsch/Bilder/Stecker.gif it's 220-230 V..so since you only got 110V in the US i*m not sure if the higher voltage won't damage your stuff in the UK they got this type http://www.hardware-rogge.com/images/product_images/popup_images/8279_0.jpg and the voltage is 240V in switzerland they also got another one http://www.weingaertner-kabel.de/img/produkte/stecker%20und%20kupplungen/Schutzkontakt-Stecker%20Schweiz%20CH,%2010%20A,%20230%20V~%20-%20small.jpg the voltage is also 230V you can buy chargers that fit really cheap at amazon, and about the hair straightener, when i went to the US i took mine it wouldn't work very well, cause it didnt get hot at all, so idk if yours would work here
Answer 2 :
Let us start at square one: Firstly check all appliances you wish to bring, if they are marked 110-220 Volts AC all you need is a European Convertor plug - available from Radio Shack for around $2. If the appliance is marked 110 Volts AC you need a step-down transformer and the European Convertor plug. Saying that, if it is just the hairdryer and hair straightener that are 110 Volts AC and you are staying in reputable hotels then you will not need the "Transformer" as all bathrooms have a "Shaver Socket" that operated at 110 Volts AC. DO NOT plug a 110 Volt appliance into our electricity supply without the "transformer" otherwise you will "fry" it or electrocute yourself - possibly both.
Answer 3 :

Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Almost all laptops have this feature now so really you should be asking which ones don't voltage switch. The best you can do is decide on a model you really like and then call the company to ask them.
Answer 2 :
The online sites should ideally contain the electrical specifications. It is easier if you are in a retail store; just look at the power pack: the ratings will be on it.
Answer 3 :
Any good manufacturer will have the information within the spec's for the laptop that your looking at. The only thing your going to need is an adapter that fit the ac connector.

u would need a different power supply and transformer, but other than that they should work, things are always more expensive in uk because we wont do anything, in the us, if something is too expensive they wont buy it, but in uk they overcharge coz they know we will buy it
Answer 2 :
Power supply likely is a minimal issue. They are likely universal 100~240V. The bigger issue would be keyboard internationalization, what can be included with the OS and systemas far as software goes, and customer/warranty support.

If customs check my laptop and find downloaded shows, do I get in trouble?

If customs check my laptop and find downloaded shows, do I get in trouble?
I have a few shows such as Dexter and CSI that I've downloaded using torrents. I'm coming to the USA on a trip and wanted to bring them along for when I'm bored, specially since my layover in Europe is 9 hours. If customs check my laptop and find them, do I get in trouble for illegal downloading? Can they prove that it's been downloaded and not bought and just copied to my machine? What about Mp3s?
Other - Computers - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
They don't go through your laptop looking for downloaded movies/music. They will xray your computer to make sure its not a bomb, but they aren't gonna inspect the files on it.
Answer 2 :
It's illegal, and they do sometimes check at the border. TSA agents can randomly pick people out of a line and take them to a room where they require you to log on to your computer. They can then go through files and make you unencrypt any that are encrypted. If they find pirated materials, they can deny you entry and also levy a fine.
Answer 3 :
when i went through customs with a labtop i only had to show them it turned on. TSA is only worried if your computer is a weapon pirated movies and music would take way too much investigation for every person traveling with a labtop in and out of the country. Plus the TSA has nothing to do with illegally downloaded copies. Its an intellectual property issue and the copyright owners would be the ones filing charges not the TSA. I'm sure you will be fine.

I just bought a laptop in the U.S.A and I am gona take it to Europe, what do I need to charge it,plugs differ?
Do I need a simple and cheap adaptor, from 110V to 220V,or do I have to buy a big transformer ??? Thank you!
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
you will need a voltage adapter, Europe runs on 220v, were 110 v you should be able to get one at a radio shack, any computer shop,
Answer 2 :
errr, the adapter will not transform the voltage, the transformer will. An adapter will only change the shape of the prongs so you can plug it in Europe Check the power brick of your laptop(you know, that huge brick on the power cord), it should say something like: Input: 110/220V. If it says exactly that, then yeah, all you need is a plug adapter since your power brick has a built in transfomer. If the laptop only says Input: 110V, then you would need a transformer. Make sure the transformer can deliver at least 120W of continuous power. Your other option is this case would be a new power supply like the ones you can get from igo: http://www.igo.com/selectorIGOSOL.asp You can also buy igo products at local stores, like radioshack. Most of them do come with buil in transformers. In either case, you would still need to buy the adapter.
Answer 3 :
you should check out this site where you can get a sony vaio laptop for free

Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM for my laptop from US/Europe/Canada/Australia?

Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM for my laptop from US/Europe/Canada/Australia?
Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM worth between $50 to $150 for my laptop from US? I intend to buy it online as it is cheaper than here in India. They send it through courier service(UPS, DHL, FedEx)and charge some shipment fees. But they say that I would have to pay customs fees for it upon delivery depending upon the rules and regulations of Customs Authority of India. I need to know that would these courier service charge any extra amount(Customs fee, customs brokerage fees, VAT, octroi charges, etc) upon delivery to my address?
Other - Business & Finance - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
the courier won't charge any importing duty. I think that may the seller will charge you some importing duty because seller will choose courier and deliver his(her) goods to you. good luck.
Answer 2 :
Sellers don't charge duty. The customs service charges duty. Duty is a tax imposed by your government on imported goods. The courier company who delivers to you will usually charge you for the duty, because they pay customs right away as soon as the package arrives. This is called "fronting" the duty, which they will usually do for you. Sometimes, if they don't know you, they will contact you and ask for payment upfront. For a small item like RAM, they will probably front you the duty. Important to note, though, NOT ALL items have the same duty rate. Some items are considered duty-free, and you would not pay duty, maybe only VAT or General Sales Tax. Good luck.

Recharging laptop etc. in Europe?

Recharging laptop etc. in Europe?
What is the best way to re charge multiple electronic items, lap top, camera, nintendo, etc? Can I use an adapter and converter to plug in a power strip? That would knock my voltage down to 110 so I don't have to worry about blowing out any of the electronics. I could also charge 6 items overnight and not have to get up every two hours to switch. The power strip also has a breaker so I should be good. Right? Comments?
Other - Europe - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
They sell converters many places and your best bet would be to probably just buy 1 or 2 and take turns charging them. I'm not sure if you would be able to find a converter power strip, but if you do then give it a shot.
Answer 2 :
Check your chargers, many are good for 110 and 240, and those work better if you plug them into 240, some even say in the user manual that you may not use a converter. It is well possible that you can recharge all on 240 volts. In that case you will not have to bring a converter, saving you on weight and money. If you do go for a converter and power strip, add all the wattage's and figure whether you are within the limits of the converter. Mostly recharging does not take much power at any time, but if you do all at the same time it does add up. Mostly you do not need to recharge each item every day. I mostly recharge my phone one day and my camera the next. I use two plug adapters, so I can recharge/use two things at the same time, and in some cases I can recharge something from my laptop while it is plugged in, like an Ipod or some telephones. PS: on each charger, mostly on the plug or the box in the wire, you will find the voltage it can run on. Often it will mention 110 -240, sometimes only 100-120, if it mentions 240 you will not need a converter. Near that will be a mentioning of so many watt. You will need to add all of those to work out whether you can use your converter for all things together.

Using a Macbook laptop while in Europe?

Using a Macbook laptop while in Europe?
I will be studying abroad in Germany for six months and bringing along my macbook. I am concerned with the power situation, I have blown out numerous appliances while abroad and I will be screwed if this happens to my computer. I know I will need a power adapter so I can charge my computer, but how can I assure that it won't overheat and ruin it? Do they sell macbook chargers in Europe that fit the outlets there so I don't have to plug in an adapter? (I'm assuming they must because how else would people in Europe use mac computers, I just haven't been able to find any) Thanks.
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Check the adapter on your macbook - it should say 110-240V. If it says that, you just need an adapter ofr the plug outlet in Germany. Good luck with your studies.
Answer 2 :
Here's the perfect solution from apple: http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M8794G/B?mco=MTIxODk3Mw I bout it Worked great in: France, Germany, Switzerland.. Oh and good luck with studying
Answer 3 :
If you use an outlet adapter, be sure to read warnings like "Not for sensitive electronics". I'm sure someone makes outlet adapters for electronics. A specific European charger for the Macbook would be an excellent investment, though. Mind you, I've charged an iPod Nano with an outlet adapter "Not for sensitive electronics" in Cuba, but it was a risk, and the results were sketchy. It overheated and shut down the charger a lot, but it worked.
Answer 4 :
Yes...Macs are sold in Europe, so they would have to be selling compatable transformers. You *should* have no issues with pluging your NA laptop into the European transformer, since the transformer takes the incoming AC current and "smooths" it out into the "flavour" of voltage that the computer wants. This is the major reason the transformer unit heats-up. But, that is another issue! :D If you have a Mac store handy, go pay a visit before you board the aircraft, and ask the handy tech staff. If you're lucky, they'll actually know their stuff (unlike the Geek Squad from Best Buy, which is notorious for hiring people that haven't the slightest clue about the electronics they are supposed to "repair," sometimes almost to the point of not knowing how to power-on the unit!). Now, due to Steve Job's anal attitude about "his" baby...the connector to the computer and the voltages the computer run on are likely to be identical, regardless of what country you buy a Mac in... Good Luck!

How do I find a provider to get me internet access for my laptop?
I had no problems in Europe connecting to internet with my laptop, even though I had no provider or whatever. I have Toshiba computer, and it was wireless and it simply connected to something someplace..ok I know basically how, but not how to keep, you understand? So now I am in the US with same computer, but I do not know if I need to have a certain provider company (and certainly I am willing to pay) or just make a contract with someone.
