You can keep in touch with everyone. You can upload your photos from your camera to the laptop to clear your camera's memory card for more pictures. Plus, you can look up everything from where to go, how to get there, what to see, etc. Most things you can do require the internet. However, most every place in the world these days (and most hotels) have the internet for you to use.

Well, you can track your emails, your banking accounts plus any overseas accounts you may have as well. I wouldn't go anywhere without mine..Even to the North Pole twice, my laptop went~!! I even use it to keep notes..Nice tool.. Your needs may be different than most, in that case, you're lucky not to have to worry abt lugging it around~~lol

It will be very useful for a thief. I personally would not take it, there are so many internet cafes for you to use. A laptop is just another valueable item that you could loose. And most of the times you'll be too busy with sightseeing and other activities to bother with using it. Online banking with wireless access is very unsafe, it is practically an invitation to clear out your account. The only sensible use I can see is when you go abroad to study at uni and need the laptop for this or if you are really into professional-level photography and need the PC to store and digitally process your pictures.
