Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM for my laptop from US/Europe/Canada/Australia?

Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM for my laptop from US/Europe/Canada/Australia?
Do I Need to pay custom duty for importing a RAM worth between $50 to $150 for my laptop from US? I intend to buy it online as it is cheaper than here in India. They send it through courier service(UPS, DHL, FedEx)and charge some shipment fees. But they say that I would have to pay customs fees for it upon delivery depending upon the rules and regulations of Customs Authority of India. I need to know that would these courier service charge any extra amount(Customs fee, customs brokerage fees, VAT, octroi charges, etc) upon delivery to my address?

Answer 1 :
the courier won't charge any importing duty. I think that may the seller will charge you some importing duty because seller will choose courier and deliver his(her) goods to you. good luck.
Answer 2 :
Sellers don't charge duty. The customs service charges duty. Duty is a tax imposed by your government on imported goods. The courier company who delivers to you will usually charge you for the duty, because they pay customs right away as soon as the package arrives. This is called "fronting" the duty, which they will usually do for you. Sometimes, if they don't know you, they will contact you and ask for payment upfront. For a small item like RAM, they will probably front you the duty. Important to note, though, NOT ALL items have the same duty rate. Some items are considered duty-free, and you would not pay duty, maybe only VAT or General Sales Tax. Good luck.

What are the pros & cons of taking laptop computer on an international vacation?

What are the pros & cons of taking laptop computer on an international vacation?
I'm considering taking my laptop computer with me on a trip to Europe (UK & France) so I can blog, upload pictures & videos, email & Skype friends, etc. Have others done this? If so, did you ever regret taking your laptops along? Would you do it again?

Answer 1 :
Not if it doesn't cover Europe and you're going to a country in Europe. You could connect to free wifi in places like hotels and other places if you're on vacation though.
