Laptop - Works in both America & Europe?
Hi, I'm getting a laptop from Canada which uses 100V, I have heard that some laptops can work in European countries that use the 240 system without problems. How can I tell if the laptop autocompensates or if I need a transformer of some kind?

Answer 1 :
The plugs are a different shape. You will definitely need a universal converter. They sell them in travel and luggage stores.
Answer 2 :
It should come with it's own. Mine is a black box on the cord. It says how many volts it can take. I bought it in the US but am now living in Europe, and it works fine. The only extra thing I had to buy was a plug adaptor because they're outlets are round instead of rectangular. That only cost about $2!

The charger that charges your laptop battery has some markings written on it. Those markings usually tell you the voltages it can be used with. Almost all chargers nowadays can be used with all voltages between 100V and 250V. Laptops are designed to be mobile. Which means they are made for travel to various countries where the electrical outlet voltages vary from 100V to 250V.
