I was going to buy a voltage converter to use in Europe

I was going to buy a voltage converter to use in Europe so I could charge my laptop but....?
I looked on the back of the box and it said in small print not to use with computers. I assume that this means not to use on a desktop and it would be ok to charge my laptop. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Desktop/laptop doesn't matter. You probably need a voltage converter that works with small loads and gives you a real 60HZ sinewave. Try Radioshack, they list everything you need and you can get one for about $30 or less.
Answer 2 :
I think that there is some kind of risk with using it with a lap top because they are so expensive, and the company dosnt wanting you getting mad mad at you if something goes wrong with it.
Answer 3 :
Most laptop charger are wired to use current between 100 and 240 Volts. I have a Dell and a HP-Compaq that I have used in Europe and Asia, without a voltage converter. Check on the back of your AC power adaptor. If it is the case, you don't need a converter but a simple plug adapter.
Answer 4 :
Look on the back of the transformer (the big black thing in the middle of your cable) and see if it says this somewhere on there: "Input: 100-240V~" If so, you only need to get this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104181&cp=&origkw=europe&kw=europe&parentPage=search
Answer 5 :
what you do is check out from your laptop company can it work in Europe befor you go pluging it in or there will be a spark and a bang then windows will not load up if its a dell laptop when the spark and bang go watch out for the fire from the battery .check with the laptop company im sure it will work but its aways best to check frist

I am an electricity engineer, I never use something before I check its quality or the way of it works. you should know how many voltage and current does ur pc need, after that compare that to the converter, then if it was ok u can use, if not, go for other thing.

There is no effect on a laptop or desktop all American computers In this day and age the computers are sold in Europe HP Compaq IBM and they make them to work in US and Europe and there are no changes made to them when they sell them in Other countries except for the keyboards and language settings. . No voltage converter is necessary but each country has different connections, so just go to radio Shack in your area and they have connections for all countries, unfortunately the power system in Germany France, Spain, England is all different connections.
