Should I take my laptop with me to Europe?
This summer, I am going to be spending two months in Europe. One month will be spent studying at a university in France, and the other month will be spent travelling. I plan to visit the bordering countries of France for 4-5 days a piece and spend my time in hostels. I know that my time as a student I would love to have my laptop for watching DVD's (and workout DVD's so I can workout in my dorm room), talking to my SO, reading and connecting back home via the Internet, and also working part time to make a little extra cash. This all sounds fine and dandy, but I know myself, and I know that when I am in Italy having a nice pasta dinner, I am going to be worried if my laptop is still back at the hostel where I left it. I know the luxury of the internet and a media center at my fingertips would be nice, but I am still having reservations. What do you think? Have you had a similar experience? Thank you for your help!

Unless you plan on carrying it with you everywhere you go plan on losing it. Stuff gets stolen from hostels all the time.

hah, why is this on your list of "worries?" yes you should.
Answer 7 :
Buy a secure cable lock that plugs into the back of your Laptop and is then secured around an unmovable object. + most hostels and hotels have some type of valuables safe that you can use for storage. Simply by email check before going. Go Surf & Enjoy

Why not? I moved to England 5 years or so ago and I always take my laptop with me when I go back to the US. You may be better off using web cafes for internet access but using it for films and stuff will work....the only other option you could consider is a portable DVD player. Very good and a great deal cheaper.

Yes, you should have your laptop at your disposal. A security cord works well. Also, I don't know if you rent or own your home. If you do, see if there is a floater that covers your computer while traveling in Europe. (If you are a USAA member their renters policies have this automatically, but you must be in the military or the child of a current member.)
