Should I bring my laptop with me to Europe

Should I bring my laptop with me to Europe?
This summer I will be spending two months in Europe. 6 weeks will be studying (so I will be staying in one city, for the most part, with maybe a few weekend trips). The remaining few weeks will be spent doing some travelling to neighboring countries. My big question- should I take my laptop with me? My main concern is theft, and having to be constantly on guard. However, my laptop will be my main form of communication with my boyfriend, family, and friends back home. What do you think? Do you have any tips for travelling like this with a laptop? I have heard that the Sony Mylo might be a good alternative, but I am unsure. Thank you for your input!

Answer 1 :
Internet cafes are pretty easy to find - that might be another option for you if you decide not to take it. How about the iPod Touch? It does WiFi internet/e-mail as well!!
Answer 2 :
yes bring it, just make sure you back all your material and protect it when you need to be away from it.
Answer 3 :
Yes, but carry it with you EVERYWHERE. It will be a pain, but better then not being able to contact those you want. I have a sturdy case that I wear like a purse...
Answer 4 :
Do you want it stolen? Would you like to drop and brake it? Leave it at home and use what is available in Europe. It might surprise you. Then you only need to hang on to your wallet and passport. You should show how much you are doing by not communicating every day. Focus, for the first time in a long time on work, not on the relations back home. What did people do before laptops, put more into life and got a lot more out of life.
