How do I charge my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop in Europe?
I currently am using an American charger, but I'm going to Europe so what kind of adapter am I going to need to charge my computer noted above.

you just need to get your self an international power conversion kit... they are not too expensive but it will allow you to use almost everything you take with you over there.

k - frequent traveler here - laptops have been made from the day one with frequent travelers in mind so they operate on both 110 V and 220 V so that is NO PROBLEM you can travel with it anywhere in the world and yr power adapter will work - HOWEVER in Europe electric socket is slightly different so before you leave U.S. go to Radio Shack and buy European socket adapter and attach it to the end of yr power cord - ANOTHER THING - due to regional codings of DVDs yr DVD player in yr lapop WILL NOT work with DVDs bought in Europe solution: go to http://www.videolan.org and download VLC Player - previous versions of VLC Player had the ability to play ALL regional codings of DVDs BUT movie studios were after them to abandon that practice so i don't really know if the latest version of VLC Player will play other regional codings of DVDs or only North American coding of DVD - so when you come to Europe borrow DVD from yr friend in Europe and try it to play in VLC Player - if it plays great - if it doesn't - well you'll not be able to play European DVDs in yr computer if you buy any computer program in Europe it will work in yr laptop (same operating system of course) so that is also no problem one more thing - wireless is the same anywhere - wireless standards are made under the umbrella of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and they are same throughout the world

Has anyone used their US laptop in Europe?
Has anyone used their US laptop in Europe?
I’m going to Belgium this fall and would like to take my laptop. Most websites say I’ll need a voltage converter for my laptop but a few say I don’t. The voltage converters I’ve seen on line say they’re not to be used for TVs or computers. Also the airlines say I’ll need an adapter to use a laptop on the plane but they don’t say much else. Any clues?

Look at the power supply for your laptop, there should be a label on it. If it says something loke 100-230V 50/60HZ your laptop will run anywhere in the world without a voltage converter or transformer. However you will need a plug adapter, go to www.kropla.com and you can find the voltages and plug types for anywhere in the world. Check out www.seatguru.com to find out which aircraft adapter you may need for your laptop. Some aircraft are now using 110v power. If you are flying economy class, it will be a rare aircraft that has power plugs. Magellan travel has a nice little adapter that covers several plug types and has a built in surge protector and usb charging plug. Roam around on the kropla site and you'll find out lots of good stuff. I have used my laptops in 9 countries in Europe so far.

How safe is it to Travel with a Laptop in europe?
I'm going to Italy, Has anyone had any bad experiences with their computer? If I keep it with me at all times while i'm in the air port, and locked in my suitcase while i'm in the hotel, will I have any problems?

It is best to strap it to your chest, so it blocks the bullet from your heart. Seriously, Europeans have as many lap tops as Americans, so treat it just like you would if you lived in LA or NY city. Common sense. Have a fantastic, worry-free trip! OH Yeah! Just remember that there are two prices for food in Italy, tourist and local. Make a local friend and you will save a bundle of money. The food is heavy, but the wine is the best. Just remember where home is! Have fun.

Other than the mafia over there, you should be all set. :) On a serious note, I haven't heard of Italy/Rome being a place of lots of crime. In fact, I think Italy is more safer than the US. Just take care of your stuff and you should be all set. Don't show it off when you don't have to. Like on a train of something, keep it tucked in your briefcase and keep your briefcase in your site.

Well u should be careful everywhere u go these days...u shouldn't walk with the laptop in the street..a lots of east people still stuff in italy....leave it home.

I took my laptop to Europe with no problems, of course it depends where you're staying (hotel v. youth hostel v. B&B). You might ask at the reception if there is a safe where you could store your laptop for extra security. However, depending what you plan to do with the laptop, you might be better off to leave it home and just use internet cafes, which are quite prevalent and not too expensive. Most internet cafes have full service computers with MS Office, etc. booted on them and available for your use. Also, don't forget to make sure your power adapter is dual voltage, or get a voltage adapter if necessary.

I was in Europe for about 3 weeks with my laptop. I was quite comfortable. I suggest you look around for sale and affordable accomodation.
