Should i bring my laptop to navigate through europe?

should i bring my laptop to navigate through europe?
I was going to take a trip to Europe in the fall and was trying to decide whether or not to bring my laptop along with me. I would be using it to book hotels/hostels for the upcoming stops. It is an older laptop and probably weighs 15 pounds. Would I have any problems using a laptop from the states in Europe and getting free internet, or would it just be easier to use internet cafes?

yeah, i'd do it.

Umm, if you're staying in hotels and hostels chances are that they won't have internet unless you're staying in upscale expensive places. You'll probably wind up going to an internet cafe anyway - save yourself 15 pounds of luggage!
3 :
It is more practical to take your lap top with you.Internet cafes in Europe are expensive.Just make sure that the hotels you are staying at provide free Internet access.
4 :
damn 15 pounds how will you connect to internet do you have a wireless plan for it? hmm and you have to charge it
5 :
When your laptop has wireless lan then it will be no problem as there are many internet cafes or hotspots you can use your laptop for free. You also can book hotels with internet access...sometimes for free sometimes you have to pay for it.
6 :
1. You must check, whether your laptop has a voltage switch from 110 to 230 volts, since all European countries have 230 volt system. Otherwise you will need an additional voltage converter from 110 to 230 volts. 2. Check with your airline on weight limitation. Paying overweight fare may be more expensive than using internet cafes abroad. 3. Most hotels/hostels will help you with booking for upcoming stops.
7 :
yes, great idea

What's the procedure if you want to bring a laptop from Canada to Europe?

What's the procedure if you want to bring a laptop from Canada to Europe?
I want to buy a laptop from Canada and bring it to Europe (Romania more precisely) through a friend who is returning from there. Does he have to pay twice (once in Europe and once in Canada) the tax or what's the procedure? thanks:D he is bringing 1 other laptop too.. for himself so he can't pretend he has 2 laptops hand luggage :|

You only pay tax to get into Romania. However you might as well just class it as hang luggage! get rid of the box and use a laptop carry case! No one will say you've bought it and your avoiding the tax! Seriously.. Just protend its hand luggage :D
2 :
This is a Romanian tax issue. He will pay Canadian taxes, and there is no way to avoid those unless the laptop is delivered directly overseas. Picked up in Canada and transported by hand, he'll pay the tax. He will them likely pay tax and duty in Romania, depending on their tax system. He will need to know the country of origin for the unit (it's almost certainly NOT Canada), and carry proof of the value (the sales receipt). For the person who suggests smuggling (that's what bringing it in hand luggage is): worldwide, customs officials are very adept at spotting false claims. Body language, tensions in the voice, etc. One slip, and the person is subject to a search. The search will quickly ascertain that the laptop is brand new. At that point he is at risk of fines, jail, and confiscation of any suspicious goods. He will also go on an Interpol list of smugglers, making ANY international travel a major hassle. That's a REALLY stupid idea.

yah cant'
2 :
Get a universal power adaptor - from luggage stores with the travel goods
3 :
with a power adapter that works in Poland. They sell them at travel shops, but they will ahve them there, as well.
4 :
Go to a travel store and purchase a travel voltage converter.
5 :
but an adapter plug and then plug it in
6 :
You can purcahes a plug in converter. This converts the power in a foreign country to the AC current that we have here in the US. You can purchase a converter at any electronic store. Be sure to tell the salesperson what you will be using it for. There are also converters that are equipped with surge protection.
7 :
Look at your charger. Most will go from 100-240 volts 50-60 cycle automatically. All you need is a plug adapter that cost a few dollars at any travel department or shop.
8 :
An adapter might work, but be very careful. I was in Europe last February and took an adapter for my curling iron and let's just say, I needed a hair cut after I used it. The wattage is different in Europe and it kind of super heated my curling iron and it burned my hair off. Also, we sent a fiber optic angel to a relative there with an adapter and it burned up that little angel. I would call HP to ask them what your options are. Be careful not to burn up your laptop by using an adaptor. Good luck and have fun!
9 :
The same why you charge anything in Europe. With an adapter. You plug it into the wall and then plug whatever you want up to it. http://www.travelessentials.com/department/Electrical/Outlet_Adaptors/18501030034.html
10 :
Get a universal power adapter from your local store. They sell them everywhere. Food stores, pharmacies, electronic stores, luggage stores, office supply stores, even your local 7-11 might have one!

Should I buy a new one or should I keep my money in the bank for my trip to Europe?

My laptop broke! Should I buy a new one or should I keep my money in the bank for my trip to Europe?
I have about $ 2,000 put aside for my trip to Europe, which I am planning to take in the fall. Should I buy a new laptop now (which will cost me around 1,000 bucks probably), or should I keep my money and use it for the trip to Europe? I was using my laptop every day, so it's kinda important, but the trip to Europe is important too. Right now, I can only use my sister's computer! :S

Think about it. You can get a laptop any time. A trip to Europe doesn't come around often. And just go to a library.
4 :
Old style? That's the sears catalog
5 :
try to sell it online on one of those buy my electronics sites. They'll pay you for the broken electronic and then you can use the money to help buy you a new one. Try www.BuyMyTronics.com.
